Mixer ID from Palladium Dec. 1994

Hey guys, I was re-living some YouTube glory and found some clips of David Morales playing on MTV's "The Grind" in December 1994.

In the clips he's using a tabletop fader mixer with analog VU meters built-in, along with three big knobs (EQ?) on the bottom. To my eye it reminds me of some old Vestax or GLI, but it has no handle bars or rack mounts. It's also more squarish than the GLI's that I remember. I can't recall ever seeing a mixer with three eq's at the bottom, either!

Anyone able to ID this one?

Check the 7:06 mark for an interview where you can see it:

Cheers,
Ben

Looks almost exactly like a Arista MM4 except the EQ is on the left the MM4's had the EQ on the right i think!!
If i remember right BVL had a identical mixer, might be that!

I'm sure it can't be, but it looks uncannily like one of those old Realistic mixers!

Thanks for posting the link, btw. Really took me back.
Those were all the tunes that were playing when I first started going out.

Exactly what it is lol, david still has it, think his 1st mixer, he used to use it sometimes when we had his system down makin changes to his room and couldn't use his system to record his shows

In this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6g8I...eature=related we can see the back of the mixer he used at 1.00. It is not the Realistic mixer pictured above. Here's a shot of the Realistic's rear: http://www.ebay.com/itm/REALISTIC-ST...em3a6fec 7b84

It's a mystery...

It seems to have large knobs across the bottom and a graphic EQ on the top left. Headphone jack on lower right-ish.

Thought it was a Numark DM-1550 but the EQs are in the wrong place

herbalpudding 02-01-2012 11:13 AM

That Numark looks pretty damn close! But you are right about the placement of the EQ sliders (sliders, not knobs). I didn't notice where they were in the video until you mentioned that.

I'm thinking it has to be a Numark now with those knobs at the bottom, because the one time you see David using the giant potentiometer at the bottom of the mixer, he turns it all the way around right after he's mixed in another track. That would make perfect sense if it was a headphone potentiometer like on the Numarks!

I love these old MTV clips, they really are amazing. There's a great Facebook group for former Club MTV dancers, who were a bunch of Long Island kids with some amazing fashion. One of them is now a Real Housewife on Bravo, if you can believe it!

I asked David.
First answer was "Urei 1620" and I was like
And I asked him again so answer so far.

I think it's a Numark DM-1350. Imagine this one with the original knobs.

That looks very very close but the headphone jack is a little more to the left. The back panels are identical tho.

My pal DJ Louie Loops says it's a Numark DM-1500 but I can't find a pic of it anywhere.

pbellsound 02-01-2012 02:58 PM

Our friend nitred here on Wave had mentioned the DM-1500 in another post back in '08. Maybe he has some info.

mynameismatt 02-01-2012 03:03 PM

I have the Numark product catalog from that era. I'll look for the 1500. Always wanted to scan the whole thing and post somewhere.

mynameismatt 02-01-2012 04:24 PM

sorry, no 1500 in this catalog. guess it's an older model than these??

pbellsound 02-01-2012 07:57 PM

It certainly looks similar to the 1350. I did speak with a guy who's pretty sure there was a 1500 but we just can't find a pic or any info. And there's a few references to the DM1500 on the internet including a company selling a service guide for it. One website of some old DJ saying how great the 1500 was.

I think we've narrowed it down to the 1350 or 1500.

moto65 02-01-2012 07:59 PM

dm-1350 is it..used to have one

mynameismatt 02-01-2012 11:30 PM

1500?

pbellsound 02-01-2012 11:46 PM

I saw that, the A version with the GEQ.

I like the sliding pointer to tell you where to stop at. Imagine telling a DJ today to not pass the pointer. He/she won't even wait till you turn away to mash it to 10.
