James Murphy/Soulwax Despacio Soundystem (Ibiza)
I'd be interested to hear everyone on this forum's take on the system James Murphy built in Ibiza. I might have done a few things differently from a design standpoint but I give him a ton of credit for pulling this off. Very cool.

wow looks incredible

anyone know which mixer he used (urei etc) or did he do something like the loft (preamp instead of mixer)?

the front end was supplied by isonoe. here it is:

4 x Isonoe Phono Preamps
4 x Isonoe Frequency Isolators
1 x Isonoe 5-Band Equaliser
4 x Isonoe Linear PSUs
1 x Bozak DLS Mixer (remanufactured from parts by Isonoe, with new pots, external PSU etc)

there were also isonoe modified technics turntables used with remote external PSUs, isolation feet, tonearms + CNC-machined bases and damping treatment for days 2 and 3.

I applaud the effort that has gone into this system and I’m sure it sounds good and is a pleasure to play on.

The use of megawatts being used as some kind of barometer for a systems quality really should go the way of the dinosaur. It doesn’t have any reference to the acoustic output the system is capable of. I would like to see any driver that is capable of megawatts, I’ll bring some eggs along to fry on the burnt copper :)

"Eight speaker stacks each standing at 11 feet, 48 McIntosh amplifiers at 22,000 a piece, close to 50,000 watts averaging 100db on the dancefloor, and three nights to road test one of the most impressive and ambitious soundsystems in the world. The best thing about day one? “Nobody died” "

This seems like a marketing exercise for Mcintosh, if it takes 105,6000 UK pounds in amplification and 55,000 watts of power, then someone needs a lesson on engineering and acoustics or is the above just humour?

Just wondering why Justin who remanufactured the BOZAK DLS to his specifications would have retained the left and right bass and treble controls on the mixer especially if using his custom phono preamps. I was told by several customers that Justin rebuilt or modified mixers for that one of the first things he suggest to remove are the bass and treble control circuit and use an isolator or phono preamp. I personally let mine remain on my 3 mixers but I am curious why Justin elected to retain them. Any thoughts?

certainly don't want to speak for anybody...

...I would reckon' it would be the client's prerogative, in one shape or another...

I've kept the circuits in tact myself....

would like to see a pair of Dorroughs on there instead of that cheap meter. just sayin, if your gonna do it then why not finish it off proper.
