Big Bass Drivers

Hi.

I was wondering about 21" and 24" Bass drivers.

Who makes them?
And
What encloses would you put one in?
And
Are you better off just to have lots of 18"?

I have never seen one (Living in the west of Ireland (Which is the arse-end of nowhere)).

21 in

Fostex used to i believe they still make them but i would never think of using a driver bigger than an 18 butt thats my theory, other guys on this sight might think diff but i think a driver bigger than an 18 inch is to sloppy and muddy. But this is gunna come down to preference in sound one might like it others might not.

The bigger the cone..........

The heavier and slower it is. Therefore, up to 18in and no more! 21,s and 24,s and the old cerwin vega 32in woofers cant respond quickly enough to make good sounding bass!

An 18in woofer is really only used for sub bass, when do you see 18,s used for midbass and midrange?

Another problem you will encounter with really big woofers is sag! After time the cone will sag, even more than an 18!

Large bass drivers

I can only think of one company currently making boxes with 21" & 24" woofers for professional use and that's UK based Turbo Sound. Their drivers are made by their daughter company Precision Devices. Turbo Sound use these large drivers in sub bass horns for large rooms and arena type events. I have yet to hear the 24" version, but I do think the 21" model sounds pretty good. Although for dance music sound I prefer their 2*18" models, since they have a bit more definition to the 4/4 kick drum we all love

Check them out at http://www.turbosound.com
