Vintage Lafayette Phono PreAmp

So I found this phono pre amp at an estate sale and bought it for a great price.

The only problem is I don't know much about it so I need my wave music community to help me out...

Anyone ever heard of this brand or model?

Does it sound good?

What's it worth?

Anyone want to buy it?

Anxiously awaiting your replies!

Just J

i believe lafayette was a chain electronics/radio store, somewhat similar to a modern day
"Radio Shack" only with better radio electronics and kits...

You have the unit, so you should be the one who can answer these questions...

Why did you buy it? To use it or to resell it?

Looks like a pretty generic phono stage to me. Definitely not the ideal unit but can be helpful if you don't have a 3rd phono card in your Urei/Bozak (seen that done a club with a world class system before).

As bossa nolyx pointed out, the best way to figure out its sound quality is probably an A/B test against something you are used to listen to.

As for reselling, I wouldn't count on making money on this at all. The great price you paid is likely what it's really worth.

Hope this helped

Thanks guys....

I didn't have my system set up when I posted the pic and did realize it was a lame question after the post LOL. I hooked it up and it sounds pretty good. I a/b it against my Urei 1620 phono pre using a Technics SL-1100a.

I didn't essentially buy it to make money. I was hoping it had some value and couldn't bare to see it end up in the trash. I was thinking about getting it a nice home.

Can you tell more about your A/B test? How did it measure up to the Urei phono card?

eBay might be the best way to send this unit to a loving home. Good luck with your 1st sale!
