Some Dj rhetoric

15 years ago, contents of my DJ bag for a 3-4 hour set were around 40 pcs of vinyl, 20 cds, headphones, pair of Ortofon cartridges & a pair of slipmats.

With the advent of DVS (Final Scratch, Traktor Scratch, Serato, etc) DJs were blessed with not having to carry all that vinyl anymore.

Fast forward to the present day. The current contents of my DJ bag are the following:

Apple Mac Book Pro w charger
NI Audio8 soundcard
NI Kontrol X1 (2 units)
Traktor Timecode vinyl & cds(4 pcs)
Slipmats (2 pcs)
Shure White Label cartridges (2 pcs)
laptop stand
3-4 usb cables
2 midi cables
6 pairs of rca cables
microphone (1 pc)
led flashlight
usb flashdrive
500 mb external hd
ac extension cord
assorted audio signal cables & connectors
basic electronic/electrical tool kit
duct tape (1 roll)
squash balls (2 sets)
toothbrush, toothpaste & dental floss

These days I'm only carrying 4 pcs of vinyl with no actual music on them. But the bag seems to be much heavier.

And YES! I am O.C.

Ok but having only 40 vinyls for 3-4 hours is very very little.
I used to have 100 for two hours and 250 for a night.

why is it with DVS you have better oral hygiene?? wtf

and holy crap you make your life complicated.
this is our rig.. 2x X1, 1x maschine, Laptop, Soundcard, 10cds, 2 usb keys

timecode.. ?? vinyl?? seriously!!

and although I have romantic notions of vinyl, it just isnt set up for that in most spaces anymore.. 40 pieces would not be enough, 20cds!! wha! is that your cd case thats attached to the visor in your car? unless you programmed yourself very carefully.. shit with vinyl, you needed at least two crates for a gig.. and a couple of cd books.. maybe there were less gadgets and technology, but that shit was heavy..

lol

I see many DJ's showing up with just a laptop and expecting the venue to hand them anything else they need.

I once had a DJ show up for a fashion thing with an IPhone and IPod. Her pre-event tech request was "any DJ style mixer and two IPod cables". She asked me how to use them as well as the mixer.

I'd work for FREE just to see a DJ carting in cases of records.

Paul, if you want to haul some bassmax boxes & amp racks to Denver (for free),
I'll haul as many crates of records as you want to the event...
even bring some turntables to use them....

and supply the tops!

hope all is well....
and that you know i'm kidding....

most clubs i play at have cdj 1000s so i bring 500 cdrs and a lollipop headphone and a fog machine (yes cause most have a buggered one and lights look better with smoke)

back in the day i brought 680els 200 records and sony mdrv 600 cans

sometimes if i know the owner i bring my rotary mixer cause i like it like that

i still own 1200s but im lacking in the record dept if anyone wants to donate a poor student some wax ill provide my addy hehe

i think in the future i may start using a 64 gig stick and nothing else as a lot of clubs have the newer decks now

I told a promoter i would play for free for a gig comming up if he supplied 3 turntables and a Rane 2016 but there had to be NO CD players in the console!
He never called back
