omg..where is this...?

the booth was seperated from the dancefloor with a red string...a shouter is animating the crowd to cheer, and he keeps repeating quentin's name...
everybodys dressed fancy...

what a pity

good music though

why should i?
that seperates me even more from the crowd than i already am

dunno, i like to keep a closer contact to the people that are dancing to MY music...i don't prefer these high booths...i rather be on the same groundlevel as the dancers..it's much more intimate

Isolated (if we want to name it this way) booths have his good side trust me.. specially when airheads want requests. when some gangster is looking at you, or when you just simply wants to have a good time and you don't want nobody to see what youre doing.

I saw the video, cool vibe while i was watching came this to my mind .... i dont know if will be a good idea start a Thread named,

ARE M.C.s GOOD FOR THE DJ's OR NOT??

i personally hate have som3body on the microphone all night long, like anouncing a store is closing.. If they introduce you in the set is fine,. but talking like a brasilian parrot gets you dizzy after a few minutes.

is just the opinion of this humble and modest Dj

Most of the people are staring into the booth What ever happened to the dayz of going to a club to dance instead of standing in front of the booth watching the dj

"Question, why is it?"

because djs are the new superstars out there..at least people think so...
the glorification of djs as being supreme entities is at it's highest peak...
next thing you know people might really start a religion for that bastard richie or dumbass tiesto

and people staring into the booth is just to see, what all that hype is about and if that dj can live up to his reputation...or they might just be curious, those lil buggers

You have to keep in mind that for most of us in the world, we don't have DJs like Quentin Harris or Louie Vega that play weekly in a local club. In NYC, Louie Vega plays weekly at Cielo and if I was a regular I probably wouldn't stare at the booth either. We're lucky if these guys come to Toronto once a year.

Personally, I like clubs that designed around the booth and put the DJ as the focal point. They don't have to be raised way above the dance floor but in venues like the Guvernment I can understand why they would do that.

I may look towards the DJ but I'm never just standing.

I disagree, I think now more than ever, people understand what DJing is and how it's done due to the amount of people that are DJ's now, as opposed to the 90's and before, when there were only a select few people that had the passion and motivation (and could afford) to do it.

I think that a lot of people in clubs now days are DJ's or have their own bedroom setup or play on a virtual DJ program on their computer, which I don't think is necessarily such a bad thing. But that means that the club is full of amateur DJ's and they want to see the best at work, see what they are doing. I myself do it, I find it really interesting, as we all play differently, it's cool to see how other do it. But I aint there all night. Sometimes you need a rest from dancing

Quentin Harris plays at Lotus twice a year.
Most of the time, he was mixing 3 tracks at the same time.
It's like doing his own remix live, it's hard to track id sometimes.

Maybe some of you have seen this, here is the youtube link for the people never seen it, live video footage of Quentin at Lotus Soundbar.

but doesn't this actually prove my point, because...they all wanna be those cool djs too? this goes way further than just people deejaying their favourite tunes from mtv or top of the pops or whatever that crap-show is called...
people, especially young people, they get so much crap piled up their asses by the media, they can't help but becoming mindless blobs without the ability to even think straight

they got to have the newest cellphone, with the latest chart-entries as ringtones...all they see on television is how sad and poor their life really is, because there's nothing else on tv than reality-soaps, celebrity-magazines, popstar-talent-shows where everybody thinks he is the new mariah carey

so they gotta spice it up a little, and start competing with each other
and todays coolest thing is to be a dj...and play all those tunes that "ROCK"
and then they go see justice play "live" without their equipment even plugged in, but it's all about the show....
and the fame...and oooh..the money
so much money...money money money money
must be funny...in the rich mans world

i get sick at all these youngsters walking around out there, trying to be sooo individual, non-conformist and sensitive...when they are all just the same non-critical, boneless little rats that the government wants them to be

they just don't get it...
they rather wear their ed hardy-jeans and von dutch-truckercaps...all white trash kinda, because its cool how kid rock looks, but he still has some style, i mean he's fucking pamela anderson...what the heck, man?
others hide their faces behind HUUUUGE sunglasses, because paris hilton wore them at a red carpet somewhere..they saw the picture in teen magazine, and she just looked sooo hot in that 100.000$-dress
and her car...omg..i wanna be a heir too....and then mtv is pimping my ride
oh...life can be perfect if you have money

i know i'm talking myself into a rant here, but i can't help it

Wow dude, live and let live. I can understand what your saying, but if you don't like it do something about it, move, it's not like this all over the world.

What I was trying to say is that the 'glorification of the DJ' was much bigger in times gone past. More people understand what the DJ is doing now, which kind of breaks this down a bit.

Joe Claussell is playing @ The End in London this Saturday (Can't wait) anyway this is what he has to say in an interview on their website........

So I’ve got to ask about your gig at The End, have you ever been to the club?

I think so… but I can’t recall…

The main DJ booth is an island in the middle of the main room, which DJs either love or hate, because you are in the middle of a sea or people, part of the crowd. You’re with the people instead of high up on a pedestal…

In the middle of the dancefloor? Is that where the booth is?

Yeah, so you are one with the crowd and really part of the night.

One with the crowd…. I love that. Definitely, to be one with the crowd.

So are you looking forward to the gig?

I am, I am. And I’m glad you brought that up, about being one of the crowd, I’ll do a good job because that’s where I want to be. The DJ booth is always up in the air, and I hate that.

I make him right, if you have a problem with basic social skils you prob shouldn't be a DJ, You are there for one reason and one reason only and thats to make the dancers have a good time. You need to listen to the floor not think you are above it, because let me assure you, your not.

I've played every major club in London and when other DJ's that are sometimes friends of mine are rude to the punters I make a point of saying do you think so and so got to the point where they are today by being rude???

Don't think so, if someone came and asked me to play something stupid I simply say.... Sorry I left it at home and ask if they are enjoying the night, Hopefully they will go away and say he was a nice guy....
