What is everyone playing these days?

All this talk about gear and virtually no talk about what is being played out of it. I'm pretty much done with house music. I'm really into this French electro, indie, dance music mash-up that hitsters are into. It's so much fun.

As a mobile DJ, I play everything. 70's, 80's, 90's, House and more..mashups are great. Sweet 16's are getting annoying... all they want is "TECHNO".....

Everything and anything! At home literally anything from classical, jazz, rock to disco and funk.
When I DJ I tend to play new and old deep house, tech, techno, Detroit techno bit of prog and anything in between

For the last few years I've been playing mostly funky jackin chicago style house. I still play a little bit of that but not much. I'm just over it I guess. It got boring and it just all sounds the same to me. The tracks just seem so disposable to me now, you know? I play them a few times and I'm already sick of them. Plus the production quality just seems lacking to me now.

I'm playing mostly deep house and soulful vocal house lately. The production quality is more pleasing to my ear and the tracks are not so disposable. I'm having problems finding enough of it that I like to satisfy my needs though. I'm VERY picky. I like nice deep stuff, but not "deep and moody", and I like sopulful vocal stuff but not too anthemish. Some of it sounds a little too gay for my taste (And before anyone gets there panties in a ruffle I don't mean that in a negative way its just not my style).

ONE thing I see from reading everyones posts, THAT I REALLY DO LIKE, is once again, there is WIDE variety among what we like, what we play, and we arent all playing the same things. From the mid 90,s to early in the 21st century, it seemed as if everyone played the same tracks, everywhere you went.

So, IMO, things are AS THEY SHOULD BE!

Popular Mexican music, (border music as i called) is IMo very bad and ugly the so named Duranguense music or Corridos, ooh my god !!!

Cumbia is not that bad if we looked thru the social context that most of the mexican people enjoy that is like the country music for Mexicans

on the other side Pop music is good and is very acceptable i just dont like it because is overplayed among latin people Also the people who listens pop music in latin countries don't like the mentioned Border music ... several good Pop acts are outside like Belanova, Fase, Moenia, Sussie 4, and Aleks Syntek/. Youtube them

Belanova samples the Loose Joints beats on the track Tus ojos.

As long as we are getting Multi Cultural....

I love listening to Japanese Taiko Drums. And live Taiko performance can be awesome.

I know exactly what you mean. If I buy house records, its classic, like on Strictly Rhythm. Most new house music sounds sounds over produced to me. It's not raw.

See, I know exactly what you mean, yes, originally house music was a raw, stripped down sound, and Strictly has many a classic tune. I loved " Luv Dancing", and the DJPierre stuff, etc, BUT, one thing I am liking about todays music, IS that production is once again becoming more polished sounding. bUT, THEN, I DID GROW UP IN THE ERA OF LAVISHLY PRODUCED MUSIC, SO.....

Then again, Kerri Chandler makes some raw sounding stuff, THAT I DO LIKE, love his musics THUMPING bottom end too!

His stuff sounds great on my system, I played the shit out of a tune called "And".

I also like this guy Jimpster,s stuff too, heavy, thick bottom, deep, and darkish sounding, but liovely, not sleepy.

I have this Robert Owens track from the end of the summer that I like, also a brooding, sound, very attitude sounding.

Some of the minimal stuff is doin it to me, too!

And Kerri Chandler,s " Hexidecimal " IF your speakers can handle playing this at high volume, KICKIN HARD!

Child 13 - Jersey Devil Social Club is a rocking sparse track too!

On the techno and acid tip, Church of Nonsense-Daniele Papini.

Track 5-Poor Boy Rich.

Golden Flow-M-traxx`s Techno South mix-DJ Rhenalt

On the soulful female vocal tip, iTaC,s So Easy, featuring Ann Nesby-DJ Spen.

Some things I liked this summer!
