Studer Revox A/B 77?

Need input from those here who are familiar with the Revox A77 & B77 open reel tape recorders. One of each unit will soon be available here in Manila. I just want to know what are the differences in features between the two? Your replies will help me in choosing which unit will go home with me.

Thanks

Not a lot in it really, i have only repaired A77's not yet had a B77 in here but i do have a PR99 in my studio which is the big brother of the B77 and a A77 in my house both sound great!

The B77 came with a balanced option i think which might be handy for you depending on what you want it for!

The B77 has less distortion according to my books but other than that i can't see a reason to spend the extra $$$... mind you i like the distortion!!

Someone might have better hands on knowledge than me, would be nice to see what someone says!

Depends on what you will be using it for. The B77 has the built in tape cutter that makes editing easier. The B77 also is a later model, so it's newer, but that doesn't say the individual one you get has seen less use and wear.

I just read this on some site. It said that the A77 is belt driven where as the B77 is direct drive. In terms of ease of use would the direct drive be better? I have no experience with a direct drive open reel unit.
