Archiving rarities to DVD audio
I get a bit nervous taking some of my more rare records to gigs,
-basic wear and tear adds up after a while, and often the tunes would be very expensive and difficult to replace.
It occurred to me that most soundcards these days sample at very high sample rates that would allow one to make use of DVD audio's
better dynamic range. Also DVD burners are cheaper now than ever.
One could simply play back through a regular DVD player. Of course this means no pitch control, so it would apply more to DJing Soul,
Funk, Rare groove etc where beat-mixing isnt as much of an issue as House. ( Of course I speak for myself there..)
I dont know how a DVD player would react to high SPL's I remember
cheap CD players skipping because of bass years ago.
Has anyone given this a try? I'd rather play my records than put them on CD of course, but for preservation purposes maybe this idea
has some merit.
