The Cobacabana had (I think) 6 of them.

That's correct, a friend of mine has those in his possession. I have the four that were originally installed at Capitale.
That makes ten between the two of us.
I'm starting to think these ten were the only ones ever produced by JBL.

Never seen then in Europe and specially in Germany.
Are the like the newer JBL dance stuff based on cinema systems?

More importantly: does it sound good?
The biggest night club in the region here (Time Out in gemert) has a JBL SR 47xx system, and it sounds absolutely atrocious.

Ah your are from NL?
Hello neighbor.
The JBL SR 47XX can sound decent if the system in the right size for the venue and tuned correctly.

I think the problem with the Dance 5 is the three 14's don't go down very low. Despite the huge size of this cabinet, the woofers have a rather small enclosure volume.
With the proper subs, these cabinets can certainly put out.

When using the SR or SRX series, I've always found that bi-amping them and using the factory settings as a starting point makes them sound better. Anything to take the passive crossovers out of the equation.

yeah well clubs with good sound systems are far and in between in the Netherlands. The problem with the Time Out is that they only have a few subwoofers in a big room. Along the dancefloor are several of the 2x15" SRs, compensating for the lack of bass with ear piercing highs.

Thanks for that.
Interesting venue. They have what appears to be four Dance5 cabinets PER SIDE facing out from the DJ booth. That's cabinets about 8 foot square.
I can't give mine away, they've been marked down to $3,500US for all four.
Does Cavo want more?

Glad you got rid of them Paul. That's a horrible speaker.
I tried for weeks to try make that speaker work and barely got it sounding right.
For such a large speaker, there is very little low frequency out of it. It's the size of a Clair S4 and sound like crap in comparison.
I'd say it was one of the worst speakers JBL made.

Yeah George, they're gone.
Such a giant cabinet yet such a tiny chamber for the lows.
I've also concluded the dual mid drivers on a single horn attributed to it's bad sound.
Well, it had decent highs...
