PS - Possibly the worst thought out DJ booth in the world

i highly recommend the liner notes link by Tim Lawrence -- he is not embarrassed to explain how poor the sound was at the Hacienda, especially in it's earlier years. i bought the double cd from virgin megastore in union square (r.i.p.) on sale, and honestly it was worth it for the liner notes alone!

the hacienda comes across as a half-baked but progressive idea that was mired in incompetent management in its early years, then accidentally stumbled into becoming the backdrop for a huge cultural movement later on.

personally i think the architecture is one of the best examples of postmodern design around, but no one talks about that! would have loved to see it in its early years and its heyday.

I can't remember who it was but in the early 90's one of the Dj's we brought over here to play told me the accoustics were shocking and he would leave the place with the biggest ringing in your ears!
I would love to find some info on the system and the changes over time!
Mind you you can't argue the Hacienda is a major part of our history!

the hac had an ev mt4 system which is uber loud and the place was an untreated warehouse space which would have been real noisy being where the latter dj booth was would have been crazy hard on the ears.

the photo said it was the booth at the side of stage not the main booths, i think it said this was the first setup, not sure if it was before the main console was set-up or if it was used for background music and band nights!
