Smile What's THE BEST DJ cartridge?

Hey what's up guys. Just checking to see what others think (in your opinons) is the best or preferred cartridge. I currently have Ortofon Nightclub S's. I host an VInyl only day here in Hollywood and the last time I used my cartridges, the rear contacts were rusted. Also does anyone know if there are adhavtages or disadvatages between headshell mounted cartridges vs. one piece units. Are there new cartridges that are better than the commonly used Nightclub S? Your help is appreciated

Erwin

I personaly like and use the Shure Whitlabels. NO they are not "the best" cartridge compared to say a Grado or an original Stanton 680 EL, BUT I like their sound better than the Ortofons. If you are looking to stick with an all in one cart that is what I would recomend.

Audio Technica ATP 2XN -- sounds as good if not better than the Grado 200's and are half the price...IMHO don't waste any money on any Stanton product ever...

I've got both Shure & the Grado & u'd be hard pressed to tell the difference in sound quality, as for tracking the grado is shit whilst the shure sticks like glue...

I also don't like the sound of Ortofon needles after owning many.
I like and use Stanton 680EL's and Shure M-35X's, the M-35X is basicaly a whitelable stylus with a different cart and is head shell mount instead of the all in one design, I think the cart on the WLB is slightly better than on the M-35X but for the price these needles are amazing.
The Shure's track better than the 680's when back cueing and seeing as you are used to Ortofon you may think the 680 suck a bit at back cueing.
The 680's I have are original MK1 carts but fitted with new V3 styluses.
At the mo the 680 is my needle of choice, it's been a long favourite of mine since I first started DJ'ing.

Can someone shed some light on the difference between the original 680 EL, the 640 EL II and the new 680 V3? I have an original pair of 680 EL's in need of replacement styli and they don't seem to be available anymore. I might just buy new carts.

No real difference other than build quality, Stanton now is not the same Stanton as when they were manufactured in NY, the old Mk1 carts are better sounding than the new ones, just buy new styluses for your 680's, the original carts were made to a much higher standard, a lot of people said Stanton now is junk which I would agree with from what I have seen and tried but I tried the new 680 V3E styluses recently and I think they are good although they took a bit to wear in, this is the cart combo I’m using now.
