I thought it would be fun to do a shoot out between the two different systems, using a 12" single the differences between the two is actually (not surprisingly) very little.
One system is a DJ setup using a non modified early silver Bozak CMA 10-2DL, Technics 1210 mk2 with regular felt matt and a Ortofon Concorde Pro.
Output was taken from the Master Output and EQ flat.
The other system is the same 1210 but with a heavy rubber matt, Audio Technica AT-150MLx phono cartridge fitted to a Technics headshell into a early grey version Audiolab 8000P pre-amp.
The AT is running somewhere bellow 150pf, I can't quite remember the exact figure but just within it's recommended load.
Obviously the AT trashes anything the Ort can do when it comes to albums or something with shallower/narrow grooves but regardless the overall sonic balance I think is pretty close between the two.
With the music the Ortofon is made to play it's very good.
Just a note the black Pro S is made for 45's/mono as the stylus tip is a 1mil conical whilst the Pro is your more regular 0.7 mil conical for regular records.
I have no idea why they've done this.
Any way here you go...
